In preparation for the implementation of the Universal Health Care (UHC) law, the Provincial Health Office (PHO) spearheaded the 1st UHC Technical Working Group (UHC-TWG) meeting attended by all stakeholders last August 18 at The Bunker.

The UHC law aims to make quality, affordable health care goods and services as well as financial medical assistance more accessible to the people who need them most. Barangays Naparing and Tubo-Tubo in Dinalupihan and East Daang Bago in Samal are the first pilot areas for its implementation.

During the meeting, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Rosanna Buccahan discussed the areas of concern that need to be addressed before the UHC is formally introduced to the pilot areas even to the district hospitals, such as additional staff in rural health units (RHUs), profiling of each community, and the roles and responsibilities of all the stakeholders who are part of the technical working group.

Governor Joet Garcia mentioned implementing the UHC down to the barangay level would really be beneficial since some of the daily cases are recorded in the RHUs. Governor Garcia is hopeful that through the series of meetings, the UHC-TWG will figure out an efficient system to roll out UHC soon.
